People’s Climate March in Kalamazoo Draws Hundreds of Activists [PHOTOS]
Kalamazoo, MI – Hundreds of people gathered at Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo, MI this afternoon to protest the Trump adminstration’s environmental policy.
More than 300 people gathered at the park to speak out on Proesident Trump’s 100th day in office as a demonstration of resistance. People in cities across the United States gathered in public places to coincide with the People’s Climate March in Washington D.C. which drew at least 200,000 people.
Protestors held a variety of signs mostly related to climate change. Trump was not the only public official being protested in Kalamazoo. As one protestor stood nearby wearing a giant puppet caricature of Michigan Attorney General Bill Schutte, Kathy Loveland of Muskegon said, “Schutte is a big friend with polluters and he is right in there with them. He opposed having standards for mercury and toxins in our air and water. I really don’t like having to breathe mercury.”
Chris Wahmhoff expressed his outrage with a deep loud scream before he spoke and described a rare condition he said was the result of exposure to the oil spill in the Kalamazoo River that occured three years ago.
After a few people spoke, the activists marched around the block near Bronson Park holding signs, and umbrellas, as they braved through light rain and chilly wind.
