On Climate Change FL Voters Less Likely to Believe Politicians

United States, Florida – In spite of a recent poll which shows that Florida “voters have little tolerance for a Presidential candidate in 2016 who doesn’t believe that climate change is caused by human activity,” Republicans are still banking on climate change denial as a part of their platform.

The poll finds that 53% of voters support carbon emission reduction standards announced by President Obama last week Monday, compared with 35% who do not support the changes.

In addition, among independents, only 38% of voters say they’d be willing to support a candidate who doesn’t believe global warming is caused by human activity, and by an 11 point margin they say they would be less likely to vote for such a candidate.

In an interview this morning on MSNBC’s Jansing & Co correspondent Richard Lui asked Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) for his comment on how the results of the poll bodes for Republicans in upcoming elections. Representative Miller, who wants to completely defund the EPA, claimed, “It’s not settled science. The issue of climate change has been happening for a long time. And for us to be able to think that we, as a matter of fact can change what is going on right now to any substantive measure is really kinda foolish.

Miller: I’m concerned with the truth. And the truth is, climate has been changing for a long time. They call it global warming, global cooling — now everybody wants to call it climate change. Yes, the climate is changing. But it has been doing that for centuries. And for us to say that it is a settled argument right now I think, again, is a foolish argument to make, because there are scientists on both sides of the issue that say that it’s not settled.

When Lin pressed Miller as to whether climate change is man-made, Miller replied, “Then why did the dinosaurs go extinct? Were the men who were causing… were there cars running around at that point that were causing global warming? No. The climate has changed since Earth was created.”

According to National Geographic, there are two main hypothesis as to why the dinosaurs went extinct, either asteroid or comet, or a massive bout of volcanism. Some scientists, according to National Geographic, suggest that the cause was a more gradual shift in climate and changing sea levels.
