MICATS Activist Runs For U.S. Senate

“Buy the ticket, take the ride.”- Dr. Hunter S. Thompson

(Calhoun County, Mich.) – Chris Wahmhoff will be announcing his candidacy for the 2014 U.S. Senate race at Sojourner Truth Park in Battle Creek, MI, at 10 a.m., January 6, following his motion to quash hearing resulting from last summer’s June 24th “skateboard pipeline protest” on the defendant’s birthday.

At 8:30 a.m. Wahmhoff will have his quash hearing at the Calhoun Justice Complex, 161 E. Michigan Ave., Battle Creek, MI, 49014, Court Room 480. His motion to quash is expected to overfill the court room with more than 80 motley participants and supporters skating, skiing and bumming rides from around the state to join him, waving signs, singing chants and raising awareness against the world super villain, Enbridge Inc., responsible for the devastation of the Kalamazoo River in 2010.

In the summer of 2012 the United States Department of Transportation fined Enbridge $3.7 million dollars as a result of the spill. As part of that fine they listed 22 probable violations relating to the disaster. Additionally, Enbridge never informed the EPA of the product distinction between crude oil and dilbit. Unlike crude oil, dilbit floats briefly in water but then sinks, resulting in a much more difficult cleanup, especially if dredging is considered too ecologically damaging. According to The Wire, the disaster is the largest on-land spill in American history to date.

At 10:00 a.m. Wahmhoff will express his gratitude to his supporters and announce his candidacy with photo opportunities at Sojourner Truth Monument Park at E. Michigan Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49014. Follow up Q&A, as well as a “tarball presentation” will take place at the Brownstone Coffee House at 10:30 a.m. at 2 W. Michigan Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49017.

Chris Wahmhoff is also a member of Occupy Kalamazoo and the Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands (MI CATS).
